Font Blanca - Andorra

In his tenth season at the top Kilian Jornet has shown that he’s still as motivated as the boy with the Mohican who used to turn up for races in a minivan. For the past three years in Andorra he’s been at the top of the podium and despite some muscle pain this morning he came second in the vertical race event in Arcalís. Yesterday he finished sixth in the individual race. “Both races were great this weekend. The weather and the snow quality have meant we could enjoy these very beautiful and technical courses through the Andorra mountains which we haven’t been able to enjoy for a while and in spite of everything I’m as motivated as ever,” Jornet said. La Font Blanca staged the opening event of the ski...

Kilian Jornet's comeback in La Fully

It seems that there are always new challenges for Kilian Jornet. It’s less than a month since he returned from the expedition to Everest where he attempted to scale the roof of the world as part of his Summits of My Life project. Although it wasn’t a success, he returned from the Himalayas in good spirits and keen to continue climbing and mountaineering. After only three weeks in Norway and the Alps he has retuned to mountain running. “I’m always itching for competition,” Jornet said, adding: “I haven’t been to La Fully for a long time but it’s an event I’ve always enjoyed. This year I didn’t have high expectations but wanted to test myself.”Jornet last took part in La Fully in 2008 and returned with the...

Kissing the Hardrock for the third time

Third consecutive Hardrock and third victory, this time shared. After running together for almost 23 hours,Kilian Jornet and the local runner Jason Schlarb decided to cross the line together and be the first to kiss the cherished Hardrock in the American ultra-distance race. The event is among those that featured on the list that Kilian Jornet made when he was 16. In 2014, the Cerdanya athlete won in the San Juan mountains for the first time and set a new course record. This year he returned to enjoy and win, alongside Schlarb, the Hardrock in a time close to the record he set two years ago. Jornet and Schlarb kissed the rock with the engraved logo after racing for 22h58’28’’.“In long-distance runs the most important thing is the...

Zegama es Zegama

Mud, cold and rain continue to play a major role in the Zegama Aizkorri. However, perhaps today they were on Kilian Jornet’s side after he won the Basque event for the eighth time. All expectations were met and the 45km and 2,075 climb, in what Jornet considers “the best mountain marathon in the world”, played its part, allowing the 400 runners to enjoy a technical and very muddy course.  Jornet arrived at Zegama having chosen it as part of brief calendar of only two mountain races. He also arrived unsure of his physical readiness as right up until this week he was skiing in Norway. However, the Aizkorri mountains and the Aratz range were the perfect allies in his victory in a time of 3h50m, just two minutes shy of the record that he himself set in...
