Ski Mountaineering Calendar

Kilian Jornet has presented his mountain ski season calendar. This year the Cerdanya athlete will compete in all the World Cup events, in the World Championship and in classic events such as the Pierra Menta. He will take part in the vertical and individual categories, which are his favourites. On his official page Kilian said on Facebook Live: "Another mountain ski season is upon us and despite getting older I’m continuing to compete because I love this sport. The standard keeps improving and you really have to fight to finish near the top and achieve your goals"Unlike in previous years, the Pyrenees will be the key player in this year’s World Cup, with three events: Andorra, Cambre d'Aze and Val d'Aran. And for the first time Spain will host one...

Kilian Jornet's comeback in La Fully

It seems that there are always new challenges for Kilian Jornet. It’s less than a month since he returned from the expedition to Everest where he attempted to scale the roof of the world as part of his Summits of My Life project. Although it wasn’t a success, he returned from the Himalayas in good spirits and keen to continue climbing and mountaineering. After only three weeks in Norway and the Alps he has retuned to mountain running. “I’m always itching for competition,” Jornet said, adding: “I haven’t been to La Fully for a long time but it’s an event I’ve always enjoyed. This year I didn’t have high expectations but wanted to test myself.”Jornet last took part in La Fully in 2008 and returned with the...

Kissing the Hardrock for the third time

Third consecutive Hardrock and third victory, this time shared. After running together for almost 23 hours,Kilian Jornet and the local runner Jason Schlarb decided to cross the line together and be the first to kiss the cherished Hardrock in the American ultra-distance race. The event is among those that featured on the list that Kilian Jornet made when he was 16. In 2014, the Cerdanya athlete won in the San Juan mountains for the first time and set a new course record. This year he returned to enjoy and win, alongside Schlarb, the Hardrock in a time close to the record he set two years ago. Jornet and Schlarb kissed the rock with the engraved logo after racing for 22h58’28’’.“In long-distance runs the most important thing is the...

Zegama es Zegama

Mud, cold and rain continue to play a major role in the Zegama Aizkorri. However, perhaps today they were on Kilian Jornet’s side after he won the Basque event for the eighth time. All expectations were met and the 45km and 2,075 climb, in what Jornet considers “the best mountain marathon in the world”, played its part, allowing the 400 runners to enjoy a technical and very muddy course.  Jornet arrived at Zegama having chosen it as part of brief calendar of only two mountain races. He also arrived unsure of his physical readiness as right up until this week he was skiing in Norway. However, the Aizkorri mountains and the Aratz range were the perfect allies in his victory in a time of 3h50m, just two minutes shy of the record that he himself set in...

A summer for Everest

Kilian Jornet has been competing in the mountains throughout his adult life. Over the past ten years he has been victorious in the world’s biggest races, fulfilling the dreams he listed when he was a child. This year Jornet is preparing for a bigger challenge: reaching the summit of Everest as part of his personal project Summits of My Life.In order to prepare himself for the challenge, Kilian Jornet has decided to participate in only a few races this summer and to focus on mountaineering, climbing and altitude acclimatization. “I don’t want to completely miss out on mountain races this year because it’s something I love and where I have great friends and I can enjoy the mountains.” That’s why the Cerdanya athlete will compete in the Zegama Aizkorri...

Four Individual Ski Mountaineering World Cups

A great weekend for Kilian Jornet in the Mondolé Ski Alp (Italy) competition, where he has completed an excellent season in the ski mountaineering World Cup with a double. Having won the vertical race world championship yesterday, today he went on to complete the double by winning the individual category in the Piedmont mountains. “It’s been a perfect season. I’m really happy with the way it’s gone, to be in front in so many races, winning two championships and and winning at the Pierra Menta and the Altitoy couldn’t be better," he said.Jornet has once again shown the form he’s in on a 16.3km circuit that started at the Prato Nevoso ski station and included a 1,920m climb. He led from the start in a hotly contested race with...
