This is the third consecutive victory of Jornet in the Giir di Mont
This morning Catalan athlete Killian Jornet achieved a tough victory in the Giir di Mont in Premana, Italy. From the outset, Jornet maintained a neck and neck battle for first place against Italian Marco di Gasperi, who led the race until 4.5km from the end. Going up the Alpe Deleguagiio, Jornet managed to overtake him and maintain the lead until the finishing line with a time of 3:01:03 hours. Not only did he win the race, but he reduced the race record by 4 minutes, as well.
In some parts of the race, DiGasperi had a 3.30 minute advantage. Jornet commented, When Marco set the pace and went ahead, the truth is I didnt think I would be able to catch him up. In the last climb I gave 100% and I managed to pass him 15 meters from the summit of Deleguagiio Alp. In the descent I managed to maintain the lead until the end of the race.
In those moments of the race when I thought I could not catch him up, I could not have done it without the support of the public. I am more than happy with the victory, commented Kilian regarding the fantastic atmosphere during the race.
After this tough victory, the season will continue with Sierre Zinal on August 14th and UTMB on August 26th.
